Electronic Prescription Service (EPS)

The Electronic Prescription Service (EPS) is an NHS Service which enables your prescriptions to be sent electronically to the pharmacy or dispenser of your choice. If you get regular prescriptions, EPS may be able to save you time by eliminating unnecessary trips to your GP.

You can nominate Phakeys Pharmacy to dispense your prescriptions by EPS when you Order your Prescription Online

Please be aware that you must be registered with a GP in England to use this service.
What does this mean for you?

If you normally collect your repeat prescriptions from your GP, with EPS you will not have to visit your GP practice to pick up your paper prescription. Instead, your GP will send it electronically to the place you choose.

This provides greater choice about where to get your medicines from, as they can be collected from a pharmacy near to where you live, work or shop. You may not have to wait as long at the pharmacy as they can be prepared in advance, before you arrive.

Is this service right for you?

Yes, if you have a stable condition and you:

  • don’t want to go to your GP practice every time to collect your repeat prescription
  • collect your medicines from the same place most of the time or use a prescription collection service now

It may not be if you:

  • don’t get prescriptions very often
  • pick up your medicines from different places

Important Information

  • You do not have to have your prescriptions sent from your doctor to your pharmacist using the EPS, but if you choose to have paper prescriptions, you cannot choose to have your prescriptions sent automatically to a particular pharmacy.
  • If you decide to use the EPS, you may choose any EPS pharmacy for your convenience. You do not have to choose a pharmacy that is near to your doctor’s surgery
  • Electronic prescriptions will be sent directly from your doctor’s computer to the pharmacy computer. Paper prescriptions are not required. The service will be secure and confidential.
  • If you choose to have your prescriptions sent to Phakeys Pharmacy via the EPS, your prescriptions will be sent here automatically. If you wish to make an alternative arrangement, for example, if you are going on holiday, you will need to tell your doctor.
  • You can choose to have your prescriptions sent to another pharmacy at any time, including part way through a series of repeat prescriptions collected directly from the pharmacy (repeat dispensing).
  • If you choose to have your prescriptions sent via the EPS to Phakeys Pharmacy, the pharmacist here will be able to access your prescription in advance of your visit, so that it may be ready when you come to collect it. If, however, you choose to collect your prescription from another pharmacy, then there may be a delay in preparation of your prescription.
  • Please note that, if you have any prescriptions for appliances, these may be sent from your GP to an appliance contractor, instead of Phakeys Pharmacy
